• Dr Pedro Jaén has been a driving force behind international cooperation projects aimed at improving the medical and human conditions of people with albinism in Africa, as well as providing surgical training for dermatology specialists in Eastern and Central Africa since 2008.
• Thanks to these initiatives, more than 3,000 people with albinism currently benefit from a comprehensive skin cancer prevention and treatment programme, including primary and secondary prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. As a result, life expectancy in this population has increased from under 30 years to levels comparable with the general population.
• He has also promoted the development of a specific programme for individuals with xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) in Africa. This programme currently benefits 65 patients and covers primary and secondary prevention, as well as treatment for the skin cancers that develop during childhood in patients affected by this condition.

• Author of more than 250 indexed scientific publications.
• Author of 4 books and numerous book chapters and monographs.
• Author and co-author of more than 600 posters and oral presentations at national and international conferences.
• Principal investigator or collaborator in 14 competitively funded R&D research projects supported by public or private institutions.

• Supervisor of 11 doctoral theses, all awarded the highest distinction, including two with extraordinary awards.
• Recipient of officially recognised six-year research assessment periods (sexenios) awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
