Information on reconstructive surgery
Reconstructive surgery includes any surgical procedure aimed at reconstructing or restoring harmony to body areas affected by malformations or significant asymmetries that compromise functionality and quality of life, both physically and emotionally.
These conditions may have different origins and causes, including burns, congenital malformations, extensive scarring, trauma, amputations, tumours, previous surgeries and other complex clinical situations.
The primary objective of reconstructive surgery is to restore function while achieving the most aesthetically acceptable result possible. The most common reconstructive procedures performed at our centre include:
Complete breast reconstruction
The Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at Grupo Pedro Jaén includes one of the most renowned teams in breast reconstruction following mastectomy — a procedure performed to partially or completely remove the breast due to breast cancer.
To achieve the best possible reconstructive outcome, Grupo Pedro Jaén surgeons place great emphasis on careful planning of the initial mastectomy, as this is key to minimising visible scarring, avoiding asymmetry with the opposite breast and preserving as much skin as possible for subsequent reconstruction.

Filler complications
During the 1980s and 1990s, volumising treatments were commonly performed—especially on the lips and cheekbones—using non-resorbable filler materials. These products, mainly silicones and acrylates, have caused numerous problems, even many years after implantation.
In response to this problem, Grupo Pedro Jaén was a pioneer in introducing laser technology to effectively treat these complications and currently has extensive experience in managing these complex cases.
