Comprehensive approach

A guide to understanding the care provided by our urologists

The Urology Unit follows the same philosophy applied across all areas of Grupo Pedro Jaén. Accordingly, it offers solutions and treatments designed to provide a 360° approach to sexual, aesthetic and functional concerns affecting men, always tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

The services provided by this unit are framed within the concept of healthy ageing (healthy longevity) and are characterised by the implementation of lifestyle measures, preventive strategies and medical treatments aimed at helping patients achieve better health and quality of life at every stage.

The pursuit of healthy longevity is no longer limited to women, a population group traditionally more engaged with this concept. Increasingly, men are seeking specialist care for urogenital conditions that affect their wellbeing and overall health, both physical and emotional.

Information about the Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit

Comprehensive assessment and personalised diagnosis

The Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit works on the basis of an individually designed care plan, developed following a thorough evaluation. This includes standard laboratory tests and targeted screening assessments to evaluate urological health, sexual function and risk factors associated with the most common cardiovascular, endocrine and oncological conditions in male patients.

Based on the results obtained, specialists may recommend interventions related to nutrition, physical activity, emotional support, medical therapies, monitoring or preventive strategies. These recommendations are supported by close collaboration with other Grupo Pedro Jaén units, including Endocrinology and Nutrition, Emotional Support, Dermatology and Surgery.

Prevention and management of prostate conditions

The specialists at the Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit have extensive experience in the early diagnosis and management of prostate conditions, particularly prostate cancer and Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a progressive and relatively common condition in men from the age of 45 onwards. Although it is not life-threatening, it is frequently associated with significant urogenital symptoms, emotional discomfort and sleep disturbances due to nocturia, all of which can have a substantial impact on daily life and overall quality of life.

Early detection using advanced technologies

Whenever possible, early detection of prostate conditions is carried out using minimally invasive diagnostic techniques, such as micro-ultrasound or fusion biopsy. Fusion biopsy is an outpatient procedure used to investigate BPH and prostate cancer, providing highly detailed three-dimensional images of the prostate gland through the combination of magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound.

This technique allows precise assessment of the prostate, facilitates rapid exclusion of pathological findings and, when required, enables accurate tissue sampling while minimising damage to surrounding structures.

Diagnostic findings are complemented by tumour marker evaluation, genetic and hormonal profiling, as well as detailed medical and family history. This comprehensive assessment allows specialists to implement a personalised therapeutic protocol based on each patient’s needs and prognosis.

Advanced treatments and minimally invasive surgery

Whenever appropriate, treatment is based on pharmacological therapy combined with lifestyle modification. When necessary, minimally invasive surgical options are considered.

These may include: Green laser photovaporisation ; an endoscopic technique performed via the urethra to relieve urinary obstruction symptoms associated with BPH. Echolaser thermal ablation; a percutaneous laser procedure particularly suitable for younger patients with prostatic adenomas, allowing highly precise treatment while preserving surrounding tissues and sexual function Rezūm® System, an innovative technique that uses water vapour to ablate prostate tissue in a rapid outpatient procedure with minimal recovery time.

This approach is particularly suitable for patients with moderately enlarged prostates who experience urinary symptoms. Its effectiveness is achieved without compromising urinary function, ejaculation or sexual performance, leading to a meaningful improvement in quality of life.

“Our urologists are experts in the management of functional and aesthetic concerns in patients of all ages, including young adults, middle-aged and older men”

Healthy ageing

At the Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit, special attention is given to the functional and aesthetic health of men who wish to address the changes that commonly occur with ageing, with the aim of achieving healthy longevity and an improved quality of life.

Many of these changes are linked to hormonal variations that develop progressively in men over time. While hormonal changes and their health implications are widely recognised throughout a woman’s life (menarche, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum period, menopause), similar processes also occur in men and likewise influence wellbeing, health and self-esteem.

Management of andropause

In men, ageing is associated with a gradual decline in testosterone, the principal male hormone, comparable to the reduction in oestrogen experienced by women during menopause.

This process, known as andropause, may lead to a range of physical and emotional symptoms, including sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction, reduced libido, ejaculation disorders), mood changes such as depression or irritability, loss of muscle mass (sarcopenia), reduced bone density (osteoporosis), fatigue, low energy levels, difficulty concentrating, memory impairment and mental fog.

Although these symptoms do not pose a direct threat to life, there is no reason to accept them as inevitable. A variety of medical and supportive treatments are available to alleviate symptoms and promote ageing with greater wellbeing, satisfaction and overall health.

Multidisciplinary approach

The Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit offers treatments aimed at improving sexual function, physical fitness, facial, body and genital aesthetics, as well as general male health. When required, care is delivered in collaboration with other specialised units within Grupo Pedro Jaén, including Dermatology, Surgery, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Facial and Body Aesthetics.

Clinical and aesthetic care tailored to younger patients

The Grupo Pedro Jaén Urology Unit is also designed to provide care for younger patients affected by conditions impacting sexual and/or urological function and aesthetics. These may include genital malformations, erectile dysfunction, reduced libido, infertility, pelvic injuries with urogenital involvement or sexually transmitted infections.

Specialists within the unit offer the full range of scientifically supported treatments to address these conditions, including injectable therapies and traction-based treatments. In addition, surgical procedures are performed to correct penile malformations or aesthetic concerns related or unrelated to ageing, such as scrotoplasty, penile girth enhancement or penile prostheses. Depending on the case, these procedures may be combined with non-invasive techniques such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP is increasingly used in the management of Peyronie’s disease, an autoimmune condition characterised by the formation of fibrotic scar tissue within the penis, leading to abnormal curvature, deformity, pain and difficulty or impossibility of sexual intercourse, with a significant emotional and interpersonal impact.

For this area of care, the Urology Unit works closely with other Grupo Pedro Jaén departments, particularly Dermatology and Surgery, to ensure optimal outcomes.
