LC-OCT allows the architecture of the skin to be studied with an exceptional level of detail, without the need for a conventional biopsy in many cases. Thanks to real-time images and support from artificial intelligence tools, the dermatologist can characterise many lesions during the consultation and decide on the most appropriate approach with greater confidence.

Horizontal and vertical images of the skin

Unlike other imaging technologies, LC-OCT combines horizontal and vertical visualisations of the skin. This dual perspective provides a more complete understanding of each lesion and helps identify changes that could go unnoticed with other techniques.

A level of detail close to that of a biopsy

The image quality allows the different layers of the skin and numerous microscopic structures to be observed in great detail. This information, close to that provided by a conventional biopsy, increases diagnostic accuracy without the systematic need for invasive procedures.

Safe and completely painless technology

The examination is quick, comfortable and completely painless. It does not require injections, contrast agents, ionising radiation or incisions, and can therefore be repeated during follow-up without discomfort for the patient or the risks associated with other invasive techniques.

Image acquisition using LC-OCT technology and its interpretation are performed in real time. This helps confirm or rule out certain diagnostic suspicions during the consultation itself, reducing patient uncertainty and accelerating treatment planning when necessary. By having this information available during the same appointment, the specialist can integrate the findings into the clinical assessment and explain the next steps more clearly.

Objective monitoring of treatment response

LC-OCT does not only facilitate initial diagnosis. It also allows the evolution of numerous skin diseases to be monitored and the response to medical treatments, laser treatments or targeted therapies to be assessed objectively, helping to adjust clinical management when necessary.

Fewer unnecessary biopsies

Having access to microscopic information without the need to remove tissue makes it possible to reduce the number of biopsies in lesions that can be characterised using imaging techniques. When a biopsy is still necessary, LC-OCT also helps select the most representative area for sample collection more precisely.

This technology does not replace conventional biopsy when the dermatologist considers it indicated.

Skin cancer and skin tumours

Combined with digital dermoscopy, LC-OCT provides additional information to characterise pigmented and non-pigmented lesions, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and other skin tumours.
Its high level of detail helps guide diagnosis, select the most appropriate treatment and may contribute to reducing unnecessary procedures when lesions are benign.

Inflammatory, infectious and other skin diseases

LC-OCT can also provide relevant information in the study and follow-up of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, rosacea and hidradenitis suppurativa.

It is also useful in the study of blistering diseases, pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo, skin infections, parasitic conditions such as demodicosis caused by Demodex folliculorum, and other conditions in which non-invasive monitoring provides significant clinical value.
