Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that generates images based on the interaction of high- and very high-frequency ultrasound waves with different skin and soft tissue structures. Thanks to this technology, several units at Grupo Pedro Jaén can accurately assess soft tissue lesions or visualise the location and condition of dermal fillers both before and after aesthetic procedures. This is particularly relevant in the Facial Aesthetics Unit, Aesthetic Surgery Unit and the Complications of Fillers Unit.

Beyond improvements in imaging resolution, ultrasound has become a fundamental complementary tool in medical practice, enabling the development of ultrasound-assisted and ultrasound-guided treatments.

Ultrasound-assisted treatments

Grupo Pedro Jaén was among the first centres to integrate ultrasound not only for diagnosis, but also as a guide during aesthetic and medical procedures.

A clear example is the Complications of Fillers Unit, where specialists use pre-treatment ultrasound mapping to identify filler location, composition, depth, migration and tissue involvement before proceeding with laser removal or hyaluronidase dissolution.

Today, ultrasound goes a step further by guiding treatments in real time, allowing specialists to visualise anatomical structures while injecting substances, placing threads or introducing fillers.

This real-time imaging significantly increases precision, safety and effectiveness, enabling the specialist to treat and visualise simultaneously.

For example, ultrasound guidance allows the exact amount of product for wrinkle treatment to be injected precisely into the correct muscular plane, optimising results and preventing product migration or overcorrection.

Additionally, clear identification of vascular and tissue structures drastically reduces the risk of vascular occlusion, ischaemia or haematoma formation.

State-of-the-art ultrasound systems

All ultrasound-guided procedures at Grupo Pedro Jaén are made possible by the use of high-resolution, fully portable ultrasound devices equipped with small, lightweight probes. These probes allow exploration of even very small and complex facial areas that were previously difficult to assess, providing exceptionally detailed images from the skin surface down to bone, including all muscular and intermediate tissue planes.

This capability is especially important in facial treatments, where anatomy is highly complex, with multiple overlapping planes, fine fascial layers, nerves and blood vessels concentrated in a limited space. Real-time visualisation during treatment allows for maximum precision, reducing risks and ensuring both functional and aesthetic safety.

The face consists of a complex network of delicate fascial layers arranged in multiple overlapping planes, as well as numerous nerve endings and blood vessels, all within a very limited anatomical space. This requires particularly meticulous and precise work, with virtually no margin for error, as even a minor inaccuracy may compromise facial symmetry or function.
