Keeping lips hydrated is key to a healthy, youthful appearance. This treatment is designed for anyone who wants to revitalise their lips without modifying the natural volume, providing freshness and softness from the first session.
Immediate and subtle results
Through microinjections of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, we achieve deep hydration that improves the texture and colour of the lips without adding extra volume. It is ideal for those with dry, chapped lips or with loss of elasticity due to factors such as climate, age or the use of aggressive cosmetics.
Holistic lip care
This treatment not only provides hydration but also helps prevent the formation of wrinkles in the perioral area (known as barcode lines). It also improves the tone of the surrounding skin and strengthens the skin barrier, preventing long-term dehydration. With regular sessions, lips remain soft, healthy and naturally rejuvenated.
Lip contour shaping and definition
A well-defined lip contour emphasises the expressiveness and harmony of the face. Over time, this area becomes less distinct, affecting the appearance of the lips and their projection. This treatment restores natural definition and corrects small irregularities.
Redefining the Cupid’s bow and contour
By means of microinjections of low-density hyaluronic acid, we outline the lip vermilion border, highlighting the Cupid’s bow and improving symmetry without generating an artificial effect. This gives a more structured, rejuvenated and elegant look.
Correction of asymmetries
In some cases, the upper and lower lips are of disproportionate size, or the lips are irregularly shaped. With this technique, we achieve a precise and natural correction, ensuring perfect harmony between both lips and the rest of the face. It complements other procedures such as hyaluronic acid hydration or the lip flip.
Lip Flip
The lip flip is an innovative technique that enhances the appearance of the upper lip without the need for fillers. It is an ideal option for anyone looking for a more youthful effect without modifying the natural volume of the lips.
Lip rejuvenation without augmentation
By injecting small doses of neuromodulators in strategic points of the orbicularis oris muscle, we are able to turn the upper lip slightly outwards, providing an effect of greater projection without adding filler. This treatment also balances the proportion between the upper and lower lip.
Preventing perioral lines
By relaxing the muscles around the mouth, the lip flip also helps prevent the formation of the vertical wrinkles known as barcode lines. Combining it with other treatments, such as moisturising or lip contouring, enhances the results.
Treating perioral lines (barcode lines)
Vertical wrinkles around the mouth can give an aged appearance and harden the facial expression. This treatment combines regeneration and filler techniques to smooth lines and bring lasting improvements to skin quality.
Combination of microinjections and laser therapy
We apply microinjections to fill fine wrinkles without adding excessive volume. In addition, we use fractional CO2 lasers to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. This not only softens wrinkles but also strengthens the skin and prevents lines from deepening over time.
Natural and progressive results
The combination of these techniques guarantees a rejuvenating effect without altering the natural expression of the face. With regular sessions, the skin regains its elasticity and firmness. To enhance the results, we can complement the procedure with fractional radiofrequency or mesotherapy.
Gummy smile (Gingival display)
A balanced smile is key to facial harmony. When gums are too visible when smiling, gummy smile treatment helps to improve the proportion between lips and teeth, achieving a more aesthetic and balanced expression.
Treatment with neuromodulators
We apply neuromodulator injections to the strategic points of the upper lip elevator muscle, reducing its hyperactive mobility and preventing the lips from retracting excessively when smiling. This minimises gum exposure without affecting the naturalness of the expression.
Immediate results
The procedure is quick, virtually painless and enables improvements to be seen within a few days. Its effect lasts between four and six months. It can be combined with fillers to optimise the lip profile or with dental veneers for a balanced, attractive smile.
Surgical Lip Lift
The philtrum is the vertical groove between the base of the nose and the top of the upper lip. When this is too long, or the upper lip has lost definition with age, a surgical lip lift is an effective solution to rejuvenate the facial expression.
Shortening of the philtrum
This surgical technique consists of making a small incision just below the base of the nose, allowing the upper lip to be lifted and the distance between the upper lip and the nose to be reduced. This procedure results in better exposure of the lip vermilion and a more youthful appearance, without the need for fillers.
Comprehensive improvement of facial expresión
In addition to improving lip projection, this treatment enables greater dental exposure when smiling, resulting in a more harmonious appearance in the lower third of the face. Recovery is quick and scarring is minimal, and can be treated with lasers if necessary.
360º attention
To achieve a complete facial rejuvenation, it is necessary to treat not only the lips but also the surrounding areas such as the lower third of the face. This approach improves facial harmony and achieves a more natural and balanced result.
Correction of deep grooves and marionette lines
Ageing causes the appearance of deep creases in the perioral area, such as nasolabial folds or marionette lines. To treat them, we combine resorbable fillers and fractional CO2 laser, achieving firmer, smoother and more uniform skin.

Treatments designed to enhance the appearance of the lips have become one of the most frequent requests among patients attending our Facial Aesthetics Unit. This growing demand is linked to evolving beauty standards, as well as to an increasing number of younger patients seeking to improve the appearance of their lips through non-invasive procedures that deliver harmonious and natural-looking results.
Treatments for the mouth and lips
The lips and the perioral area can present very different needs depending on each patient. For this reason, specialists at the Grupo Pedro Jaén Facial Aesthetics Unit consider a personalised assessment essential. This evaluation goes beyond analysing lip shape and skin quality; it also takes into account facial proportions and symmetry in relation to the chin, nose, cheeks, cheekbones and even the forehead, in order to avoid disproportionate or artificial-looking results.
As a result, treatment selection is tailored to each individual, and in many cases, several therapeutic options are combined to achieve comprehensive aesthetic improvement.
Main aesthetic treatments for the lips
Intensive and long-lasting hydration
The injection of small amounts of a substance with a high capacity to retain water directly into the lip mucosa and vermilion border provides immediate rehydration and revitalisation. The result is smoother, more supple lips with fewer fine lines, achieved instantly and without adding volume. The lips retain their natural shape and are not enlarged; they simply appear healthier, better coloured and more youthful.
Lip contouring and definition
Over time, the natural contour of the lips tends to lose definition. To restore and refine their shape, a filler specifically designed for the lip area is injected using microcannulas, allowing precise placement exactly where it is needed. The result is immediate and very natural, without adding extra volume—only improving the lip outline. This technique is also used to redefine the Cupid’s bow, which often flattens with age.
Lip flip
The lip flip is one of the most popular techniques for rejuvenating the lips and enhancing the appearance of the mouth in a subtle and natural way, without increasing lip volume. It involves injecting small doses of a neuromodulator into the orbicularis oris muscle (also known as the “kissing muscle,” responsible for puckering the lips), reducing excessive contraction.
This technique not only softens early fine lines that may later develop into so-called “barcode lines,” but also causes a slight outward rotation of the upper lip. This creates a fresher, more youthful appearance without affecting speech, facial expression or lip volume. When increased fullness is desired, the lip flip can be combined with dermal fillers.
Perioral vertical lines (“barcode lines”)
These vertical wrinkles above the upper lip are among the most aesthetically impactful perioral concerns. They are particularly common in smokers, individuals with pronounced facial expressions or those with significant sun exposure. In early stages, their progression can be slowed and softened using a combination of lip flip techniques and small amounts of dermal fillers to smooth the most pronounced lines.
When these wrinkles are more established, treatment is usually combined with rejuvenation laser therapies to renew the skin surface and stimulate collagen and elastin production. This improves skin firmness and texture, resulting in a smoother and more resilient perioral area.
Lip eversion technique (Russian lips)
This technique requires a highly refined approach to increase lip volume while avoiding unnatural results such as the “duck lip” appearance. To achieve harmonious outcomes, fillers are injected deeply within the lip mucosa using very fine cannulas, allowing the lip to rotate slightly outward without projecting forward. The result is more striking than other lip treatments and is designed to be noticeable. The key lies in thorough patient counselling and precise dosing, ensuring a balance between enhanced volume and overall facial harmony to avoid an oversized or artificial appearance.
Gummy smile
Aesthetic lip treatments are not limited to enhancing lip appearance; they can also correct issues that affect overall facial harmony, such as asymmetries or a gummy smile. In some patients, there is a significant imbalance between the upper and lower lips—most commonly a much thinner upper lip—which can be corrected using fillers to restore proportion
In cases of gummy smile, where excessive gum is visible when smiling, neuromodulator injections are used to reduce the overactivity of the muscles that elevate the upper lip excessively.
Upper lip lift (lip lift)
The upper lip lift is a minimally invasive surgical technique designed to shorten the philtrum (the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip) in patients who show little or no upper teeth when speaking or smiling—the opposite of a gummy smile. The goal is to achieve a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing expression.
The procedure involves a small incision at the base of the nose, which is later well concealed. By removing a small amount of skin, the upper lip is subtly elevated and rotated outward, resulting in a comprehensive improvement of the entire perioral area.

Complementary treatments
As noted above, dermatology and aesthetic medicine specialists do not focus solely on the specific concern expressed by the patient during consultation. Achieving harmonious results requires a global assessment of the face, including facial movement, resting volume and shape, and potential excess skin. For this reason, lip treatments are often complemented by additional procedures, such as the correction of nasolabial folds (creases running from the nose to the corners of the mouth) or marionette lines (vertical lines extending from the mouth corners towards the chin).
Nasolabial folds are typically treated with denser fillers than those used in other facial areas, while marionette lines respond particularly well to fractional CO₂ laser treatment. This technology renews the skin surface and stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to a tightening effect and a significant improvement in skin quality, noticeably softening these wrinkles.
Finally, our Smile Aesthetics Unit offers further enhancement of the lower third of the face through dental whitening and/or porcelain veneers.
