Dermatological laser treatments

Like the rest of the medical professionals at Grupo Pedro Jaén, dermatologists in the Laser Unit are actively involved in research across all areas of dermatology. This scientific activity is regularly reflected in leading peer-reviewed medical journals. In clinical practice, ongoing research focuses on identifying new therapeutic targets in order to expand the range of dermatological conditions that can be treated with laser technology. This has contributed to improved outcomes in conditions such as acne, psoriasis, vitiligo, rosacea and fungal nail infections, among others.

Information about dermatological laser treatments

Advances resulting from clinical research have made it possible to better define the most appropriate timing for laser treatment in different dermatological conditions. Evidence increasingly shows that improved outcomes can be achieved not only by combining different therapeutic approaches, but also by intervening earlier than was traditionally recommended.

One of the clearest examples is acne. Laser therapy is no longer used solely to treat residual marks or scars. In selected cases, it can be applied during active inflammatory outbreaks, with the aim of reducing inflammation and lesion severity, while also helping to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Research is also exploring the role of laser treatments in hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating traditionally managed with medication or botulinum toxin injections — and in hidradenitis suppurativa, a condition also known as acne inversa. This disease is characterised by the formation of painful nodules and abscesses in areas such as the armpits, groin, buttocks and other regions rich in sweat and sebaceous glands.

According to available data, laser treatment not only helps reduce inflammation in these abscesses but, when used for permanent hair removal in affected areas, can significantly reduce recurrence rates and, in some cases, lead to complete resolution of the condition.

Differential diagnosis and state-of-the-art devices

One of the key distinguishing features of the Grupo Pedro Jaén Laser Unit is that both diagnosis and treatment are always carried out by dermatologists. These specialists have in-depth knowledge of skin physiology and pathology, as well as extensive experience in the clinical use of laser technology.

This expertise allows the design of highly comprehensive and individualised treatment protocols for each patient, combining medical therapies with laser sessions, as well as different laser technologies when appropriate. Treatment decisions are based on the prior diagnosis established by specialists in each unit and on the primary therapeutic objective at each stage.

This approach provides a precise and comprehensive response to all aspects requiring treatment. Such accuracy is made possible by the fact that Grupo Pedro Jaén operates the most extensive private dermatological laser platform in Europe. The group is also a reference centre for the evaluation and updating of clinical indications and technical characteristics of advanced laser devices, as well as for training other specialists through structured academic programmes.
